THE STABLE?
I want free forums and free almost 24/7 garage access.
Free forums and communities like myspace are possible because they benefits everyone. Participants give and take. The overhead (costs) are taken care of by Advertisers and Sponsers just like radio, TV and search engines like THE GOOGLE.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=189499
Sometimes they don't pay, but according to the thead 99% of them do.
Why can't we use the same formula that brought us free online communities, search engines, TV, and Radio to get free garage space or a lot?
I would love for it to be next to the Grand Prarie Junk Yards so we can have access to spare parts and Yellow belly for drag. Anybody know the cost to build a nice size lot to slide, autox, time attack, etc. That would be some nice income to help fund the Garage. The garage/lot will also be a nice meeting spot, advertisers will be happy to know that 100's of people gather around the area and are exposed to marketing material.
What came first the Chicken or the Egg?
Do we approach Advertisers/sponsors first or people?
We can entice sponsors by requiring participants in G Club to meet certain criteria like passing knowledge test about manufacturers products. The Techonology industry has been doing this for years. They take sales people from all retail chains and offer products or entries to win grand prizes in exchange for keeping current with their products. Imagine how benefcial it would be to a company to have their target market remember their entire product line and benefits? It would turn every participant into a saleman at no cost to the company!
We can offer advertising space in the G Club Forum and inside/outside the building. Another option is to have monitors running advertisers material like commercials.
The tools and lifts should be the easiest thing to get sponsored becuase they last a long time. (If we use a system that effectivley prevents loss ).
If G Club can't be fully sponsored, the balance should be covered by participants. We should make a list of participants first and gather certain details about them like gender, age, car, income, to show sponsors that we have what they are looking for before they commit (lowers risk for them by ensuring they are not throwing their money at nothing.)
My last suggestion is that we take a one time refundable membership fee to show ads/spnrs that the people listed are commited. The benefit to participants of Glub is that we get discounts on products. The discount has to be deep enough that G Club pay's for itself in the first purchase. We can organize group buy's etc. If G Club go's nowhere, they get their money back.
This is way out of my league, but city grants as a backup? The Garage can feature recycling facilities for old tires and oil, and that may win the favor of the city.
The best part is NO tickets, NO fines, NO jail.

That is one of the hardest questions to answer.
None of us alone is stronger than all of us together, lets get everyone (all local forums) talking about this and see what our options are.

Challenges/Objections
We've listed some of the benefits of G Club to Participants and to advertisers/sponsors. But we should consider some of the challenges to start discussing solutions. Two categories help classify the challenges, before realization (BR) or getting things started and after realization (AR) after things are started.
BR challenges
Money
Substantial interest to support G Club
I think the solution to this is to start polls in all local forums, and evaluate interest. We could also ask for feedback as to what the facility should offer e.g. Towing, vehicle storage spaces, a large lot for monthly meetings outdoor and or indoor also good for autox, drift, vendor presentations, swap meets and parking spaces for future project cars. When we have a consensus of what we need/want we can evaluate the cost to provide those wants/needs.
AR Challenges
Theft
Vandalism
Violence
Code violations
We don't need immediate solutions to these but having some idea will help evaluate cost. For example it would be easier to identify theives if we have some type of ID/Badge/Registration process. This is one of the lowest most cost effective means of approaching most of these challenges.
Lights, camara action
The Facility could offer 24 hour access to facility cameras, so the community could police itself. Another cost effective idea is trading track/event privileges for volunteer time.
Code Violatoins will be better evauated after a consensus of want's/needs has been reached. I don't know what the city has to say about large gatherings and displays of performance in the middle of night.

Benefits of YB and GPS
The more support the project has, the more successfull it will be. We don't really know where this will go until we see who's onboard with what (gauge interest and evaluate feedback).
Realistically it's easier just to do a concrete or asphalt lot especially if there is no or little support.
Overall; the goal should be to lower the cost of motorsports so everyone can be more successful in meeting performance goals and spend more time having fun. I think the way to do this is by finding a way faciltiate everyones (as much consesnus as possible) motorsports needs.
A Garage may not be the way to go. We can meet several motorsport needs with a simple asphalt/concrete lot.
Time attack, drift, auto-x, swap meets, parking space, possibly a GARAGE for events and meetings, but especially eliminating trouble with the law. Eliminating facilities like a garage means eliminating infrastructure. No need for maintaining a building and paying for running water, electricity, heating and cooling and things like security. We just walk away when were done. We can get by with rented lights and a portable heaters/fans/bathrooms. Renting everything means: We don't play, we don't pay. I'm sure once it gets going it will grow rapidly especially as advertisers/sponsors (tire/tool/clothing/drinks, performance, etc) take interest. Hopefully their will be some demand for at least a steel building. Wrenchers can by with airtools (speaking for myself becuase my main goal is eliminating as much labor costs as possible).
The Grand Prairie (GP) area is already popular amongst bikes, ol school rods, etc. Lets see how we can create some synergy and serve everyone's needs.
Looks like Yellow Belly has some new neighbors (Grand Prairie Speedway {GPS}). Maybe Garage/ Lot club Club will join soon

If mw gets by fine with out a course I think we could too. I could acquire a large amount of cones.

Re: THE STABLE?
The name should reflect the use, but we really haven't figured that out yet although I think its safe to say NO GARAGE
Just makes everything easier, so SKID PAD any one else

Re: THE STABLE?
Skid pad would be fine for now, new random nicknames will come about on their own. But if it was just a huge slab of just pavement would be cheaper to acquire and maintain
Re: THE STABLE?
Skidtopia haha. This is a great idea I would really like to see this fall into place. A garage would have been pretty sweet though!

Re: THE STABLE?
Well, maybe we can have just a building with a roof to shelter us from rain and the sun. I can't think of the name right now but no walls just a metal roof
Re: THE STABLE?
Back in my home town my friend had a shed. it was a just like a roof and two side walls. Very good size to, you could fit about 4 cars in at a time and still have plenty of room. Those are nice but I don't remember the price.
