Tan, the craigslist post you posted in a thread.
he has a 98,000 mile KA for 500 bucks, anyone want to chime in if you think it is too much, or worth it, because, that is a big deal. Question

also, Bryan, we should go hit that guys shop up, so you can get the driver side door guts, so your window can work Razz Razz

Post  S14Tan Tue Dec 16, 2008 11:10 pm

dude.

Stock SR (s13) 7psi 370cc injectors 205 ish hp 200ish tq

Stock KA with S13 t25 7psi 370cc injectors 250 Whp 245 Wtq cause stock maf maxes out. (proven)

Wait I'm not done.
Cost.

Sr20det $2100 (Price from JDM engine corp), 225lph fuel pump $100, random parts that might or will be missing from motorset $300, Plus swap fee $700 (quoted at TriWerks)
Total est cost $3000-$3500
For what? a 50 hp gain over stock?

Pff.

KA24DET, Engine cost. Free. You own one. (not in Todd's case)
T25 From Sr20det $100, Manifold/turbo elbow/downpipe $300 (mysr20.com) turbo oil lines $110 (ebay) You can either get a side mount for $50 at triwerks or go front mount for 150 more. BOV $50, 255lph fuel pump $100, Enthapy tune for the 370cc injectors $250. Leeway for random parts $200.
cost comes out to be around $850-$1100

With the money saved from not doing the swap, you can build you a nice T3 Top mount set up(on the KA) and easily push 300+ Whp

P.S. stock sr20det hp numbers are measured at the fly, You only get around 170-180 WHEEL hp.

No to mention you will have to sleeve the SR when you run more boost or reach high hp numbers with IRON sleeves..
Hmmm Isn't the KA block made of IRON?
Just like RB26s and 2JZ's?
Hmmmmm...

Unreliable?
How so?

Only stories that are told about the KA blowing up is due to not the parts but the half assed tune.
Because the KA wasn't designed with it being boosted in mind it has "boosted" features, Strong Iron block, oil squirters on the crank, More displacement, etc, I'm no Nissan Tech..

TUNE TUNE TUNE! I can't stress that to some people enough.

KA's are very stout motors and can handle what you throw at them.
Have you heard of the analogy " all brawn no brain"?

Sure you may have parts that support 500+hp(built, Yada yada) but you don't have a good tune, don't count on the motor lasting very long.

Same goes for the sr20det.

Expensive?
Do a parts break down and see which really cost more.

I guarantee if you beat the shit out of a Ka-t like i do to my sr at mineral wells it will blow up. its not about power its about reliablity. Trust me, aaron losey, stewart leask and russell will tell you the same thing. Stew went through like 5 ka's i heard. sr20 is reliable and you can beat the shit out of it without worrying about anything. then when you want more power, new turbo power fc, and bigger injectors and your putting down up too 400 safely on the motor.
