i have a few different options for fixing my car now that my automatic tranny is shot..
i could pay for it to get rebuilt, buy a used auto to replace mine (and hope nothing's wrong with it), or buy a used 5 speed and clutch kit, and all that stuff.

i'm leaning more towards the manual conversion just because i could have some fun and it'd be good practice for when i get an sr swap..
my first thought was that it'd be a waste of money to get a manual ka tanny
when i eventually want to get an sr20, but seeing is how i have to replace mine or rebuild it
anyway, i might as well do the conversion now.

my only question to those of you who've done 5 speed conversions is this..
i know the ka transmission isn't compatible with an sr20 motor,
but if i got a ka tranny now and did an sr20 engine and tranny swap later,
would i have to redo the clutch kit?
or should i wait until i can afford the engine swap, and just keep it an automatic now?

lot of words to express what i'm debating, but any input would be a huge help.
thanks yous.

In most cases it is better to do the swap now. That way all of the 5sp pieces are installed and ready to go when you get the sr. And plus it gives you time to get used to the feel of a 5sp. Hope this helps

i believe the only difference between the KA tranny and the SR is the bell housing. Not 100% on that but yea, cause I heard you can use the KA driveshaft with the SR tranny. But I would lean towards the swap now so that way when you get the SR it would basically be a straight drop and you wouldnt have to worry about the other manual stuff when u do that swap. Plus you would have better knowledge on the whole driving a 5spd thing.

don't think that would work lol.

honestly though, at this point i'm seriously thinking about getting rid of the car
and getting something more reliable. the inspection is going out in a few days
and i won't be able to drive it at all. and i have no money right now to fix anything..
