ok i really am a noob. no joke.
eh so i totally fcked up my tranny last week.
i got cut off by a train and decided to take a shortcut down a dirt road
which happened to be a muddy road at the end due to all the rain on wednesday
so yeah, i literary got "stuck in a rut".
i got stuck there once before and got out myself by going in reverse and drive
again and again until i picked up momentum.
so i tried this method again..
except i completely fcked up by flooring it in reverse
before my tires had stopped spinning forward.
i heard the gears scratch, but didn't think much of it until i realized
that i didn't have reverse anymore.
after my friend pulled me out with his truck, i realized what i had done.
here's what my gears SHOULD do, compared to what they actually do:
park-park
reverse-park
neutral-drive
drive-drive
low-drive
and by "drive", i mean it'll go but it's stuck in fourth gear.
so i have two options right now: stop, and go.
i had to jack up the back end just to get it out of a parking space.
so i took it to a performance shop i know of, but they want to charge me $80
for a diagnostic.
so i'm thinking, why do i need to pay 80 bucks
for someone to tell me my transmission is fucked.
i'm thinking this is a good excuse for a 5speed conversion, and wanted some advice
on how to go about doing it..
right now i have the ka24e, but somewhere down the road i want to swap it for an sr20.
so which tranny should i put in it now, or are both engines compatible with one tranny?
feel free to laugh or make fun of my stupidity. i'm right there with you.

Re: ok i really am a noob. no joke.
I would go with the typical 5 sp from a ka. Their easier to find and I think they are interchangable. But also easier to find until you get the sr.
Re: ok i really am a noob. no joke.
they are interchangable and from my understanding a 5 speed swap is pretty easy a few members have performed them

cool, wish there was a step by step write up with pictures and diagrams and all that.s14 wrote:they are interchangable and from my understanding a 5 speed swap is pretty easy a few members have performed them
i just paid off a $1400 credit card that i used to have a bunch of work done.
next will be the transmission, but im wondering if i shouldnt just swap another auto in there until i can afford a 5 speed conversion
